Trix – Precision Model Trains & History

Trix is a renowned German brand for model railways, originally founded for metal construction sets. Since 1935, the company has produced H0 model trains and since 1997 it has been part of the Märklin Group.

History & Development

Trix began in 1931 with the production of metal construction kits, later known as a competitor to Meccano thanks to its three-hole system. In 1935, Trix launched its first electric model trains under the name “Trix Express”. After WWII, production resumed in 1948, and around 1953 the company switched to DC and shortly after to the two-rail system. Since 1997, Trix has been part of Märklin but continues to maintain its own line with H0 DC trains and the popular Minitrix range in N scale.

Products & Features

  • Locomotives & Rolling Stock: H0 and Minitrix series with detailed steam, diesel, and electric models such as the BR 120, BR 41, and Class 01 locomotives.
  • DC Operation: Unlike Märklin, Trix locomotives typically use a two-rail DC system, fully compatible with standard NEM systems.

Unique for Model Railway Enthusiasts

  • Compatibility: Trix and Märklin models often share the same core mechanics; the main difference lies in the electrical system (DC vs. AC).
  • Fine Detail: Trix is renowned for its reproductions of Bavarian Epoch I locomotives and exclusive models under the “Fine Art” line.
