The North American B-25 Mitchell is an American twin-engine medium bomber from World War II. The B-25 is an all-metal high-wing aircraft with retractable tricycle landing gear and twin tail fins. Power was provided by two Wright Cyclone engines producing 1,300 to 1,850 hp, depending on the version. The prototype's maiden flight took place in 1940, with mass production beginning a year later. Numerous variants were produced during the war, including the B-25G (equipped with a 75 mm cannon in the nose), the B-25H (featuring a 75 mm cannon and 6 machine guns in the nose), and the B-25J (armed with 8 12.7 mm machine guns in the nose). B-25 aircraft mainly operated in the Pacific and Mediterranean theaters. Under the Lend-Lease Act, several aircraft were supplied to Great Britain and the Soviet Union, making their combat debut in Stalingrad. From 1943 onward, Polish No. 305 Squadron flew the B-25. The aircraft gained legendary fame for its role in the daring Doolittle Raid against Tokyo in April 1942.
