In 1975, the light to medium-duty trucks known as the "Club of Four" were presented at the Brussels Motor Show. Magirus, Saviem/Renault, DAF, and Volvo were involved in the project. The aim was to use components that were as standardized as possible in order to keep production and development costs low. Only the engine selection and the design of the cab front were customized by each manufacturer. The Club of Four was the first joint European project.
