Tamiya is pleased to announce the release of the RSO/01, featuring all-new Tamiya molded parts, in the 1/35 scale "Military Miniature" series.
During World War II, the RSO was developed as a German tractor designed to cope with conditions such as heavy snowfall. A 70 hp, 3,517 cc V8 gasoline engine paired with a 4-speed gearbox was mounted at the front, driving the rear differential and drive sprockets via a propeller shaft. The first production model, the RSO/01, featured a rounded cabin made of pressed sheet steel. Tracks measuring 60 cm in width could be fitted to navigate rough road conditions.
Production began in October 1942, and starting the following spring, the RSO/01 had its cabin floor raised by approximately 30 mm to prevent interference with the tracks. The RSO was utilized as an artillery tractor and cargo transport.
- This 1943 model, post-dating the introduction of springs, is faithfully reproduced thanks to extensive research on the actual vehicle.
- The distinctive rounded cabin is realistically depicted.
- Choice of cargo bed with or without canvas cover (the option without cover reveals the canvas frame structure).
- Wood grain on the cargo bed, fabric texture on the canvas cover, and snow buildup on the track sides are faithfully recreated.
- Mechanical parts such as the engine, drive shaft, and differential gears are highly detailed.
- Assembly-type tracks feature straight single-piece sections.
- The front cabin hood can be assembled with or without flaps.
- Includes a driver figure and masking stickers for painting clear window parts.
- Decals depict the 1st Skijäger Division on the Eastern Front in 1944 and an unknown unit in France in 1944.
