US M4 Sherman 105mm Howitzer (1/16)

The standard tracked vehicle of World War II used a clutch-brake system, where the sprocket on the turning side was braked to create a speed difference between the tracks, allowing the vehicle to turn. Although this system allowed pivot turns on the spot by completely stopping one track, driving required some skill, not to mention the loss of mechanical power and the tendency of the brakes to overheat. In contrast, the Cletrac controlled differential steering system of the Sherman M4 braked one sprocket via a differential: when the track on the turning side slowed down, the other track accelerated, enabling smooth turning without power loss or brake overheating. This system was also used on most American tanks of World War II.
Released in 1974, the M4 Sherman 105mm Howitzer is Tamiya’s first 1/16 RC tank model, and here is the version equipped with a new differential transmission, operating on the same principle as the real tank.
